Dow/Carbide Mesa, AZ Reunion 2011
Joint Reunion a Great Success
Dow and Union
Carbide retirees shared memories, stories, fun and good food at the first-ever
joint Carbide Retire Corps-Dow Retiree Reunion April 8th and 9th in Mesa, AZ.
Over 100 gathered for events that included an evening reception, a book signing by former Dow President and CEO Paul Oreffice
(who gave away copies of his autobiography 'Only in America'), games, memorabilia, a luncheon and a closing banquet.
The Saturday luncheon featured a talk by Jim Guidarini, Site Manager of West Virginia Carbide Operations.
Other Saturday activities included dance lessons by Arthur Murray instructors, Wii games, and a golf putting contest.
Leslie Sosebee shared information about Dow’s Health Initiatives and Aetna and Met Life provided materials on retiree benefits.
Trish Bharwada, Dow retiree and former editor of Dow Friends, served on the reunion planning committee.
The banquet at the Mesa Convention Center was enlivened by a concert by the Carolyn Eynon Singers
(with a solo by Linda Williamson, spouse of Jerry Williamson, a Dow retiree and member of the planning committee).
Peter Molinaro, Dow’s Vice President of Public Affairs, was the keynoter.
Each attendee left with a piece of Dow or Carbide memorabilia—a blanket, tote bag, clock, golf balls, pen, or shirt
with the company logo. Evaluations show that people enjoyed the event and hoped for more.
Efforts are underway to see if a Dow/Carbide joint retiree group might form in the greater Phoenix area
as a result of connections made at the reunion.
The Carbide Retiree Corps board of directors met on Sunday following the reunion.
